Friday 11th October
7.30pm Paint Or Pollen
Led by Sheffield based drummer Sarah Heneghan, Paint or Pollen are a gentle trio of drums, piano and flugelhorn who blend influences from folk, minimalism, contemporary European jazz and classical music. Theirs is beautiful and evocative music that reminds us of our West Yorkshire landscape. Come along and see what you think.
9pm Malcolm Strachan
Composer, bandleader and trumpeter Malcolm Strachan brings his acclaimed group to the Mechanic’s stage. Malcolm’s show will definitely appeal to lovers of contemporary acoustic jazz with a classic jazz feel. For those who love the music of Blue Note and CTI Records and trumpeters Freddie Hubbard, Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan, Art Farmer this is a must. Real quality here from international standard jazz musicians, many with deep connections to the West Yorkshire music scene.
Saturday 12th October
5.30pm Rod Mason’s Elements
The welcome return to our festival stage of Rod Mason’s Elements. Rod’s a long time supporter of the festival who has played here many times in both his own group and groups led by others. Expect spectacular fusion jazz bursting with energy, passion and skillful improvisation.
7pm Pete Rosser Trio + special guest Richard Ormrod
Wakefield based pianist Pete Rosser shares his freewheeling approach to classic jazz, songs of liberation and self-composed anthems with an expanding roster of Yorkshire collaborators. Inspired by Monk and Bartók, by Lester Bowie and Astor Piazzolla, Pete’s music aims to be challenging and accessible, running the gamut of jazz history with sidelong glances towards balkan, tango and old-fashioned classic pop. Joining Pete’s trio tonight on sax and electric guitar is multi-instrumentalist Richard Ormrod.
10pm Plantfood
The first Marsden Jazz Festival performance by Leeds based Plantfood, a 6-piece blood pumping jazz force with influences all the way from spiritual jazz to contemporary club music. Saturday night dancing vibes guaranteed!
Sunday 13th October
1.30pm The Honey Birds
Established in 2012, The Honeybirds met through a mutual love of intricate close harmony, swing music, 1940s style and fashion, and a fair amount of tea and cake! They pride themselves on having an authentic sound, precision harmonies, and a beautiful vintage wardrobe.

4.30pm Alligator Gumbo
Playing jazz from the hey-day of the New Orleans swing/jazz era, in particular the “roaring 20s”, when music was raw and largely improvised with melodies and solos happening simultaneously which has now become defined as the ‘New Orleans’ sound. Alligator Gumbo strive to keep this style alive in their renditions of popular songs from this unique time and place.
