Description

A supergroup of musicians, poets, and producers, conceived by vocalist and composer Alya Al-Sultani in the aftermath of the 2016 EU referendum, Collective X explores race, identity, and the black and minority ethnic experience.

Subjects from the fetishization of the black body to the “honour” killing of Banaz Mahmod, from Tinder to sisterhood, are approached with sass, humour, and wit. A melting pot of musical ideas; reggae lilts and propulsive grooves dance alongside funk bass figures, stabbing blues and washes of cosmic synths.

With Alya Al-Sultani (vocals), Anthony Joseph (vocals), Robert Menzel (saxophone), Shirley Smart (cello), Pat Thomas (keyboards), Clemens Christian Poetzsch (keyboards), Neil Charles (bass), Mark Sanders (drums)
