MJF appoints Richard Whitelaw as chair of trustees
17 May 2019
Marsden Jazz Festival is thrilled to welcome a new appointment to our Chair of Trustees, Richard Whitelaw, who succeeded chair Chas Ball at our recent AGM.
We would like to note the great work that Chas Ball has done over the last three years as Chair of the Trustees. During Chas’s tenure, we have seen an increase in audience figures, development of our corporate sponsorship relationships, an increase in secured funding, and much more. Chas will continue to be a trustee on the board, so we will still benefit from his expertise and knowledge.
Richard Whitelaw, our new Chair, moved to Marsden last year from London where he previously worked with the organisation Sound and Music as a Senior Producer and then Director of Programmes. He has also worked for Sonic Arts Network and holds a PhD in Electroacoustic Composition.
Marsden Jazz Festival came onto Richard’s radar not long after he moved to Marsden, when our festival newsletter was delivered to his home. His interest was piqued and following conversations with Barney Stevenson, our artistic director, Richard joined the festival board of trustees in January 2019. Upon the announcement that Chas was to step down from the position, Richard was nominated by several trustees and happily accepted the role.
Speaking about the appointment, Richard said:
“I’m really thrilled to be appointed Chair of Trustees of this wonderful festival. I look forward to working with the staff and volunteers to make this year’s event a great success and to grow and develop our festival over the coming years. Our festival is a great source of pride and joy to many; long may it thrive.”
We look forward to working with Richard over the coming months and years and gaining from his expertise, knowledge and networks
