Leeds-born Enrico Tomasso has won best trumpet category in the British Jazz Awards four times. His biggest inspiration was Louis Armstrong, for whom the eight-year-old Enrico played as Armstrong walked off the plane in 1968 at Yeadon Airport. This began a friendship between the two trumpeters until Armstrong’s death.
Enrico played with The Ken Mackintosh Orchestra, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra and The Ray Gelato Giants before pursuing his solo career. He also joined Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazz Band during Acker’s last decade, with whom he made a memorable appearance at Marsden Jazz Festival 2010.
With John Padfield (clarinet/sax), George King (piano), Tony Ormesher (guitar/banjo), Grant Russell (bass) and Hugh Lawrence (drums).
