    Commisions from Lauren Kinsella and Ben Crosland

    Festival goers will get the chance to hear two new compositions for the first time at Marsden Jazz Festival next month.

    The festival organisers have commissioned Leeds College of Music lecturer Lauren Kinsella and Huddersfield-based musician and composer Ben Crosland to perform one-off arrangements for this year’s festival, with financial support from Arts Council England.

    Marsden will soon be buzzing with the sound of kazoos with four kazoo workshops taking place in the village over the next two weekends.

    Music fans of all ages are being encouraged to attend one of the free workshops to make a flamboyant kazoo and then join in the Marsden Jazz Festival street parade at midday on Saturday 10 October.

    This year’s Marsden Jazz Festival will be the biggest yet with almost 100 gigs taking place at 26 venues this October.

    Internationally-acclaimed saxophonist Jean Toussaint will lead the headliners at the festival between Friday 9 and Sunday 11 October, which also includes over 70 free events.

    AN OUTSTANDING band of young musicians is being given the chance to make its name, thanks to a pioneering initiative by Jazz North, the organisation devoted to nurturing and showcasing talent.

    Artephis, comprising five musicians from Manchester aged from 20 to 21 is the latest beneficiary of the Jazz North Introduces scheme.
